Gabrielle commenced painting in 1999 while she was still attending school. Upon finishing school, she also experimented with wood sculpture with the encouragement and support of her grandmother, Lorna Purvis.

Gabrielle paints stories belonging to her country, Ilkawerne, which were passed down to her by her father.
