Artist Profiles

Every artwork sold by Mbantua Gallery is accompanied by an artist profile, providing information about the artist, their background and the stories they paint. These profiles are created from information gathered through our long-standing relationships with artists and communities, helping to share the personal and cultural connections behind each artwork.

We encourage our artists to sign each artwork wherever possible, either with their signature or a traditional mark such as a cross. Some of our older artists are unable to write their names and their chosen mark provides a personal connection between the artist and their work.

Certificate of Authenticity

A Certificate of Authenticity is provided for all paintings with a product code beginning with MB. This certificate, also known as the artwork's provenance, provides the buyer with a guarantee from Mbantua Gallery that the artwork is a genuine work created by the Aboriginal artist named.

Alongside the Certificate of Authenticity, customers receive an artist profile and information about the story represented within the artwork. Wherever possible, we also include a photograph of the artist holding their painting, providing a personal connection to the artwork and its creator.

Each Certificate of Authenticity includes important details about the artwork, including:

• Catalogue Number - A unique number assigned to each individual artwork.
• Artwork Size
• Medium
• Date Created - This may be an approximate date for some of our older artworks.
• Artist Name
• Artist Language Group
• Artist Country
• Artwork Title and Story
• Description of the artwork's story as told by the artist
• Signature of the Mbantua Gallery Manager

Each Certificate of Authenticity is printed on official Mbantua Gallery letterhead, providing collectors with a valuable record of the artwork's history, authenticity and provenance.

Ethical Representation of Aboriginal Art

Mbantua Gallery is a long-standing member of the Aboriginal Art Association of Australia (AAAA), formerly known as ArtTrade. As a member of AAAA, Mbantua Gallery is committed to following the Association's Code of Ethics, which provides guidelines for authenticity, ethical practices and fair dealings within the Aboriginal art industry.

This commitment helps ensure Aboriginal artworks are represented respectfully, artists are treated fairly and collectors can purchase with confidence knowing their artwork has a genuine connection to the artist and their story.
