Young Timothy Dempsey Tjungurrayi is the older brother of Barney Daniels (deceased) with whom he shared his country which is close to their mother's country in the Papunya/Napperby area. Their father was a Warlpiri speaker from the Lajamanu area.
Timothy Dempsey Tjungurrayi worked as a stockman and then as a mechanic on bore maintenance before settling in Papunya. In 1985 he was introduced to painting through Clifford Possum with whom he shared camp. Timothy Dempsey Tjungurrayi is also related to Aboriginal artist Mary Dixon.
