Ada Bird Petyarre was a senior Aboriginal artist from the Utopia region of Central Australia and an important figure in the development of the Utopia art movement. Ada Bird Petyarre was involved in the Utopia art movement from its earliest days. Her artistic journey began with the Utopia Women's Batik Group in the late 1970s, with her batik works exhibited extensively and featured on the cover of Utopia - A Picture Story by A. Brody in 1990. In 1988, Ada began painting with acrylics during CAAMA's Summer Project and continued working in this medium until she suffered a stroke in 2004.

Awelye, Arnkerrthe and Cultural Heritage
