Maureen Dixon Kemarre

Maureen Dixon Kemarre is an Anmatyerre artist connected to Ankerrapw Country in Central Australia. She comes from a large and respected family of artists and continues the cultural traditions passed down through generations.

Maureen began painting for Mbantua Gallery in 2000. She is the daughter of artist Elsie Dixon Penangke and Walter Dixon Pwerle, a senior man for Ankerrapw Country. Her artwork reflects the distinctive style and stories of the Dixon family, particularly those connected to her father's Country.

Working in acrylic on canvas and linen, Maureen paints Ntyemeny (Ruby Saltbush), Bush Food, Bush Medicine, Country and Awelye (Women's Ceremony and body paint designs). Her intricate designs are influenced by the ceremonial patterns and stories belonging to her family.

Alongside her art practice, Maureen has shared her knowledge with younger generations through her work as a teacher's aide at Mulga Bore School. Through both her artwork and community involvement, she continues to celebrate and pass on the stories of Ankerrapw Country.
