David was born in the USA and moved to Australia at the age of 25. Over more than four decades in Australia, he has led an adventurous life, spending much of his time mining and fossicking across some of the country's most remote regions, including Coober Pedy, Western Australia and Victoria.
In 1998, David returned to Coober Pedy with his wife where he eventually settled and began developing his passion for creating art from the unusual materials he discovered while fossicking. He particularly enjoys working with zebra stone, ironstone and fossils, although he is always happy to experiment with anything that catches his eye.
Known for his distinctive sense of humour and independent nature, David describes himself as something of a hermit, preferring the solitude of the bush and his workshop to the bustle of town. His unique creations reflect his fascination with the natural materials he encounters and his love of simply 'fiddling' with whatever he finds.
