Anne Gela is a Torres Strait Islander artist from Moa Island and belongs to the Kala Lagaw Ya language group. Her totem is the stingray (Thingri), and her culture strongly influences her work.
She creates linocuts, paintings, and prints that tell stories about family, community, and connection to land. Her art often uses symbols to share the traditions and beliefs of the Torres Strait Islands.
Anne is also a founding member of the Saima Torres Strait Islanders' Corporation and works to keep her culture strong through both art and community work. Her artworks are held in major collections across Australia.
