Lulu is a well-known Aboriginal artist. She was born at Lake Nash outstation in the Northern Territory (near the border of NT and QLD) in 1955. She began her career with the medium of batik, and then started painting on canvas. Lulu was involved in the Utopia Women's Batik Group in the 80's. Her work is represented in 'A Picture Story', a project initiated by CAAMA. She learnt to paint by observing the prestigious Seven Petyarre Sisters (Ada Bird Petyarre, Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Nancy Petyarre, Myrtle Petyarre, Violet Petyarre and Jean Petyarre) and other female artists in Utopia.
Lulu started painting for Mbantua Gallery in 2023. Her daughter, Selina Teece has been painting for Mbantua for a long time. In February 2023, Lulu visited Mbantua Gallery with Selina and said to us 'I wanna do painting!'. So we gave her some canvases, paints, brushes, bottles and needles.
Currently Lulu lives with her family - husband, children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. In her country, she enjoys painting and hunting for goanna. She often collects bush medicine for her grandchildren.
