Hilary was born at Raggeds Well near Papunya, NT. He painted in the 'Hermannsburg School' style of watercolour landscapes in the tradition of Albert Namatjira. He grew up watching the other artists paint and went on the begin himself in the 1980's, becoming an established watercolourist with artworks found in many private collections.
This landscape by Hilary reflects the colour and formation of the many ranges, hills, gorges and flora that are found in his country, Papunya, West of Alice Springs in Central Australia. This country truly has the blue and purple colours of the ranges in the distance, the rich colour in the sand and an amazing contrast when the plentiful flora is in bloom.
