Richard was born in Central Australia and attended the Mission School in Hermannsburg before working on the Mission station. He began painting seriously around 1947 and continued through the 1970s. His work frequently featured scenes from the Palm Valley and occasionally from the Glen Helen Valley area.
This landscape by Richard reflects the colour and formation of the many ranges, hills, gorges and flora that are found in his country, Ntaria (Hermannsburg), West of Alice Springs in Central Australia. This country truly has the blue and purple colours of the ranges in the distance, the rich colour in the sand and an amazing contrast when the plentiful flora is in bloom.
