Lorna was born in the Tanami Desert and grew to become a senior law woman, painting herself up for ceremonies throughout her life. She began painting on canvas in the mid 1980's and found her own distinctive style, layering liberal quantities of different coloured paints.
Lorna depicts the Yarla (bush potato or yam). These are fibrous tubers growing underground, in which Lorna and the women of her country use digging sticks to locate and dig up. Concentric circles represent the large hole that the women dig at the base of the plant and lines protruding represent the extensive root system of the yams.
