Kathleen was a highly respected artist representing the Eastern Arrernte families from the country southeast of Alice Springs and the community of Santa Teresa. From early childhood, growing up at the mission, she was taught to paint and draw by nuns.

Kathleen's initial experiences included drawing in the sand and learning songs and stories from her grandparents. Kathleen’s landscapes were known for their rich color and detail, depicting her country south of the McDonnell Ranges.

The establishment of Keringke Arts in the late 1980s introduced artists to silk painting and various forms of decorative arts. Kathleen was associated with Keringke Arts, holding senior positions and representing both the art center and Desart Inc. Her work remained in high demand throughout her career.

Description

This landscape by Kathleen reflects the colour and formation of the many ranges, hills, gorges and flora that are found in her country, Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa), West of Alice Springs in Central Australia. This country truly has the blue and purple colours of the ranges in the distance, the rich colour in the sand and an amazing contrast when the plentiful flora is in bloom.
