Malanda is the daughter of Utopian artists Josie Kunoth and Dinny Kunoth. Malanda's main story is 'My mother's country' which means Josie's country, Alhalkere. Malanda's grandmother is a well-known artist Polly Ngale (deceased) from Utopia.
Malanda began painting for Mbantua Gallery in November 2017. She had been watching her parents painting and thought she would like to paint as well. Malanda has three sisters (she is the youngest) and five brothers and currently lives at Apungalingum Outstation in Utopia with her family.
Malanda paints the conkerberry. In Anmatyerre the conkerberry is called Anwekety. This fruit looks very similar to a plum and is often referred to in English by Malanda as a 'bush plum'. In the Dreamtime, winds blew from all directions, carrying the Anwekety seed over Malanda's ancestors' land. The first Anwekety of the Dreamings then grew, bore fruit and dropped more seeds. Many winds blew the seeds all over the Dreaming lands.
