Kathleen painted consistently, developing a strong individual style - painting her country and stories associated with this such as Mountain Devil Lizard and Green Bean.

Kathleen and her sisters (all have the same father and three mothers) Ada Bird Petyarre, Gloria Petyarre, Nancy Petyarre, Myrtle Petyarre, Violet Petyarre and Jean Petyarre all paint this Dreaming and are known widely as the prestigious Petyarre Sisters.

Description

The Arnkerrthe (Mountain Devil Lizard) is a gentle little lizard that is covered in thorns. For added protection it is able to camouflage itself by changing its skin colour with its surroundings. The changing of skin colour is represented by the colours used in this painting.

The Arnkerrthe is very sacred to Kathleen and the people of her country. In the Dreamtime, the Arnkerrthe travelled over Kathleen's land creating all of the people, sacred sites, songs and other Dreamtime stories.
