Nora is the daughter of Lena Pwerle and the late Left Hand Sam Kngwarreye. Nora was unavailable at the time of the Utopia - A Picture Story project during the 1980's but with several other women, works were commissioned for the Robert Holmes á Court collection and are included in the publication. In the late 1980's Nora moved into the medium of acrylics with the other women of Utopia and has never looked back. Her paintings often represent her age-old Dreaming story of Yerrampe (Honey Ant) from her countries, Ngkwarlerlaneme and Arnkawenyerr in the northern reaches of the Utopia region. Her father was one of the owners of these countries which meant he was a teacher of the Dreaming stories.
Nora is a kind woman with powerful voice, much like her mother who is an influential elder in Utopia. Nora lives in the Utopia region with her mother and large extended family, including artists Rosie Pwerle and Julie Pengarte.

The short linear designs in Nora's painting represent Awelye (Women's Ceremony and Body Paint designs) for the Yerrampe (Honey Ant) Dreaming story. These designs are painted onto the chest, breasts, arms and thighs. Powders ground from red and yellow ochre (clays), charcoal and ash are used as body paint and applied with a flat stick with soft padding. The women sing the songs associated with their awelye as each woman takes her turn to be 'painted-up'.
The Dreaming story of yerrampe belongs to her countries Ngkwarlerlaneme and Arnkawenyerr. Yerrampe are a sweet bush food for the aboriginal people. When hunting for yerrampe care is taken not to kill or hurt them (or not get bitten either!) so that they can go on and collect more honey. The sac on the back of the honey ant is pure, natural honey.
