Kathy began painting in October 2018. Her stories, ahakeye (bush plum) and kangaroo dreaming, have been passed onto her from her father (deceased). She also learnt to paint from him. Kathy's cousin, Tanya Price has been painting for Mbantua Gallery for a long time.
Kathy paints the story of the Ahakeye. This a very important story for Kathy that belongs to her country, Artekerre (Three Bores). The ahakeye, called bush plum in English by Kathy, is also known as the native currant or citrus. This shrub produces small white flowers, deep green citrus-like leaves and the ahakeye, which are black when ripe and very small. This fruit is favoured for its sweet taste and can be reconstituted in water if dry.
