Gypsy has been painting for Mbantua Gallery since 1996 and comes from a family of artists including her sisters, Dorothy Jones, May Lewis, Mary Lewis and Topsy Jones.
She paints stories relating to her country, Atnwengerrp, which have been passed down to her from her father, Marnie Lewis Kemarre.
Gypsy lives out in Utopia with her husband, children and extended family.
Gypsy paints the story of the northern wild oranges, known as Akarley in Gypsy's language. The wild oranges hang down on long stalks, turning yellow or a red tint when ripe, most commonly during the month of February. Young fruit are often ripened in hot sand.
There is an ancient Dreamtime story of the Akarley, belonging to her country Atnwengerrp, which Gypsy and other women of her country share with younger generations of women and girls.
