Selma was born in Alice Springs in 1954 and grew up at Tempe Downs Station. Then she moved to Hermannsburg to go to school.

Selma started painting for Mbantua Gallery in 2017. She learnt painting in Alice Springs and Hermannsburg watching her grandmother and cousins. She painted watercolours when she started painting in 2009, and then developed her current style by herself.

Selma has 5 children and 7 grandchildren and currently lives in Alice Springs.
