Paddy was the eldest son of Ada Bird Petyarre (his father was the elder brother of Lindsay Bird Mpetyane). He lived at Mulga Bore with wife Eileen Bird and family. Paddy painted for many years working with Lindsay and his brother, Colin Bird, in the 1980's.

Paddy's paintings reflect stories associated with Ilkawerne, Aremela, Bushy Park and country around Harper Springs. All these areas are south of Utopia.

Paddy and Eileen have eleven children of whom many are now painters.
