Mukguddu was born in the bush, North of Oenpelli in a place know as Makanarlarl. He grew up in Oenpelli, attending the school there. He learnt to paint from his father, Billiago Nabegeyo who is himself a renowned artist. Learning to paint entailed grinding ochres to make the 'paint' and using this to paint designs onto bark.
Mukguddu's brother is Bruce Nabegeyo and his nephew is Elijah, both renowned Arnhem Land artists.
