In 2005, Sacha approached Mbantua Gallery during a painting trip to the Utopia Region, eager to obtain painting materials. Her enthusiasm quickly grew as she immersed herself in the collective spirit of the community's artistic tradition. Sacha found inspiration in joining the other women in this shared cultural expression, marking the beginning of her journey as an artist.
Sacha is the daughter of artist Marcia Turner and the younger sister of Rosabella, both of whom also paint for Mbantua Gallery. Together, Sacha and Rosabella carry on the Dreamtime story of the Arnkerrthe, a tale passed down from their father's country, Atnangkere. The Arnkerrthe, a sacred figure, traveled across Sacha's land, shaping its people, sacred sites, songs and other Dreamtime stories. This figure is said to hold a sac of ochre in its neck, which Sacha and her community use in their ceremonial practices.
Although the Arnkerrthe story is a legacy from her father, Sacha's painting style is deeply influenced by her mother and extended family. Her artistic approach resonates with the vibrant and bold colors, as well as the soft brushstrokes, characteristic of her relatives, including artists like Jennifer, Judy, Maureen and Jedda Purvis. This familial influence is evident in the way Sacha brings her own touch to the traditional narratives.
In addition to the Arnkerrthe story, Sacha and her sister are also known for their depictions of wildflowers. These subjects are rendered with beauty and precision, reflecting the deep connection to their land and heritage. Sacha's work is a blend of inherited stories and personal expression, contributing to the rich tapestry of Utopia's artistic legacy.
Sacha paints wild flowers growing in her country, Atnangkere. There are many different varieties of wild flowers, known as Alpeyt, including many with medicinal properties or sweet honey used to make a sweet drink.
