Dorrie is the eldest child of Lenny Jones Kngwarreye and Topsy Pwerle Lewis. She has two brothers, one sister and three step brothers.
Dorrie's paintings are associated with the stories from her father's country Atheley. They usually comprise of patterns of fine dot work in the background to describe her country and strong linear work to illustrate Awelye - Women's Ceremonial designs and body paint designs.
Dorrie is not a prolific artist. Her first paintings for Mbantua Gallery were done in 2000. Her sister Joy and cousins Georgina, Joylene, Jilly and Wayne Jones Petyarre also paint for Mbantua Gallery.
Dorrie's painting represents the flower of the Tharrkarr (Honey Grevillea), an important plant in Dorrie's country because of the sweet honey found in its flowers. The honey is usually sucked straight from the flower, or the flowers can be steeped in water to make a sweet drink.
