Mina Mina MB034414-Dorothy Napangardi

Dorothy, born in the early 1950's, is a Walpiri woman from a significant women's ceremonial site, Mina Mina, near Lake Mackay in the Tanami Desert, in the Northern Territory.

During the Jukurrpa (The Dreamtime) ancestral women travelled their country with their digging sticks and performed ceremonies. Even today the Napangardi and Napanangka women gather at Mina Mina and have ceremonies. The women sing the songs associated with this story as each woman takes her turn to be 'painted-up'. Mina Mina is the birthplace of the digging stick.
